Sky River Project

Sky River is a wind-activated kinetic pergola featuring a flowing aluminum canopy that transforms shade architecture into a dynamic public art installation, responding continuously to wind and light.

Sky River is a wind-activated kinetic pergola installation that redefines contemporary shade architecture by merging functional design with kinetic art. Designed as a sinuous, flowing canopy, the pergola is composed of thousands of lightweight aluminum flappers that respond organically to natural breezes, creating a shimmering, river-like movement overhead.

As wind activates the kinetic system, the installation produces an ever-changing choreography of motion, casting dynamic shadows and reflective patterns across the ground below. This transforms the pergola into an immersive spatial experience—making invisible environmental forces such as wind and light tangible and engaging for park visitors.

Beyond providing essential shade and thermal comfort, Sky River functions as a sculptural public art installation, enriching the landscape through movement and sensory interaction. Conceptually, the design symbolizes the convergence of individual elements into a unified whole—each aluminum flapper moving independently yet collectively forming a continuous kinetic tapestry that evolves with its surroundings. The result is a landmark kinetic shade structure where architecture, environment, and human experience flow seamlessly together.
